Ardenia "Deaner" Lewis

Gibsonville - Ardenia “Deaner” Wyrick Lewis, age 84, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 13, 2019, surrounded by family, at Hospice Home of Alamance-Caswell.  A native of Guilford County, she was born June 3, 1935 to the late Lawrence M. & Pearl H. Wyrick, and was the loving wife of 63 years to the late Jerry Allen Lewis.

Survivors include her loving, devoted children, Vonda Lewis Richey of Huntersville, NC, and David Allen Lewis of Gibsonville, NC.  She was a very proud Grandma to her 4 grandchildren, Jennifer Richey Weekley (David) of Fredericksburg, VA; Amanda Richey Williams (James) of Suwanee, GA; A.J. and Jacob Lewis of Gibsonville, NC, as well as her precious 5 great-grandchildren, who also adored her.

She is also survived by 1 sister, Shirley Smith of Gibsonville, NC; 2 brothers, Dee Wyrick of McLeansville, NC; and Euless Wyrick (LaVonne) of Elon, NC, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by sisters Ruby Johnson, Carrie Hetrick, Jean Myers; and brothers, Barrett Wyrick, Junior Wyrick, and Beamon Wyrick.

Ardenia graduated from Monticello School as Valedictorian, and was employed by Crane Company in Greensboro as secretary/bookkeeper for 5 years and Brown Wooten Mills in Burlington as Executive Assistant for 42 years.

Everyone that knew Ardenia had no doubt as to her deep faith and love for Christ, and her constant loyalty and love for her church, Hope River (formerly Brown Wesleyan Church).  She served as a choir member and was a part of special small singing groups all her adult life.  She was also a Sunday School & Assistant teacher, a member of church social committees, Card Committee, Small Group Leader, Local Board of Administration/Secretary, VBS teacher/worker, and served as Wesleyan Women Director for 25 years.

Her other community activities included community fund-raisers for Cancer, Heart, and Lung campaigns; volunteer at Allied Churches Good Shepherd Kitchen in Burlington; and an ARMC Breast Cancer Support Group participant.  She was also a member of the Ruby Red Hat Society of Burlington/Asheboro.

She always enjoyed catching up with her 1953 graduating Monticello classmates at their monthly luncheons.  She graciously was a caregiver for her sister for many years as well as a volunteer at Alamance Health Care.

She had a special love for the ladies she worked with at Brown Wooten Mills, and always enjoyed their birthday and holiday gatherings.

She will always be remembered by her love for the Lord and for her loving smile, huge heart, energetic, adventurous, friendly, and always positive spirit.  As the saying goes…to know her was to love her!

A celebration of her life will be held at Hope River Church, 4355 High Rock Road, Gibsonville, NC by Rev. Larry Pope and Rev. David Grinnell officiating on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at 3 PM.  Interment will follow in the church Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at Lowe Funeral Home on Saturday, June 15, 2019 from 5-7 PM.

Memorials may be made to Hope River Living Legacy Fund, 4355 High Rock Road, Gibsonville, NC  27249.
