W.J. McCann

Burlington- W. J. "Junior" McCann, Jr., 84, went home of be with the Lord on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the Hospice Home. He was a native of Caswell County and the husband of 64 years to Ruth Smith McCann who survives. He was the son of the late Willie James McCann, Sr. and Alma Harris McCann.
Junior retired after 43 years with Lucent Technologies and was a member of Glen Hope Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the National Guard and the US Army serving during the Korean War. Junior and his wife, Ruth enjoyed gardening and sharing vegetables with their friends and neighbors. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of the home; daughter, Kathy and husband, Johnny Hopkins of Burlington and a son, Jimmy McCann and wife, Rhonda of Mebane; grandchildren, Jared McCann and wife, Katie and Kirby Sullivan and husband, Louis great grandson, Cole Sullivan and a great granddaughter due in November; brothers, James McCann of Yadkinville, Harris McCann and wife, Sharon of Ceneterville, Utah and Gary McCann and wife, Debbie of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Thomas McCann and a sister, Helen Wright.
The McCann family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice for their kind and compassionate care for Junior during his illness.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Clarence Toney and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park with military honors. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:30 am until 12:45 pm at the funeral home and other times at the home.
