Winfred Jennings Thomas, 83, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Moses Cone Hospital following two years of failing health. He was the husband of the late Eveline Meador Thomas and was born March 8, 1929 in Guilford County to the late Harper Jennings and Cordie Shepherd Thomas. Winfred had retired from the Fleet Maintenance Division of the City of Greensboro. He had many interests including hunting, Haflinger horses, Australian Shepherds and visiting the Amish country in Ohio. He was known for his enjoyment of working with his hands such as gardening, Studebakers, John Deere tractors and cars in general. Survivors include his daughter Kathryn Loy and her husband Jimmie of Gibsonville, a son Phillip Thomas of Gibsonville, a granddaughter Crystal Clapp and her husband Steven of McLeansville, a great grandson Brandon Clapp, sisters; Guinevere Isley of Gibsonville, Syble Yancey and her husband Winfred of Mebane, brothers; Coye Thomas and his wife Carole of Haw River, James Thomas and his wife Beverly of Snow Camp and Kent Thomas and his wife Lea of Gibsonville. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a sister Carleen Thomas. The funeral will be held 2:00 PM Saturday at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Benny Church. Interment will follow in Gibsonville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends 12:30 -1:45 PM prior to the service and at other times at the home of his daughter.
