Gibsonville,NC Winfred Leon Wink Johnson, age 86, of 3723 Gilliam Church Road died on Thursday, January 12, 2006 at the Hospice Home. He was a native of Alamance County and the husband of 54 years to Sylvia Ellen Patterson Johnson who survives. Wink retired from Daniels Construction Company where he was part of the construction of the Dome on the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, DC. Wink served as a Torpedomans Mate in the US Navy during WW II improving the effectiveness of the torpedo for combat. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the 1st Burlington Ward and he served as a counselor in the Bishopric and he was a High Priest. Wink enjoyed reading various types of books and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Ellen Patterson Johnson of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Johnson PJ Franklin and Roberta Johnson Helmsin both of Wilmington, NC, Linda Johnson Bell and her husband, James of Burlington, Sheryl Johnson Long and her husband, Wayne of Gramble, South Carolina; sons and daughters-in-law, Edward Lee Bo Johnson and his wife, Burgess of Wilmington, NC and Kendall Wade Johnson and his wife, Tracey of Gibsonville; twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren; sister, Grace Allen Braxton of Mebane, NC. Wink was preceded in death by his parents, William Amick and Grace Darlin Long Johnson; sisters, Sadie Davis, Christine Buckner and Edith Smith; brothers, Donald, Garland, Kenneth and Jake Johnson. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, 1st Burlington Ward by Bishop Mike Doyle and the burial will follow at Gilliams Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The US Navy will provide military honors at the graveside. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
