Wilmer Kernodle Clemmons, 89, known to many as Granny was called home Tuesday, December 5, 2006. Many thanks to the staff at the Hospice Home for taking special care of Granny. She was a native of Alamance County, daughter of the late Jasper and Eugenia Simpson Kernodle and was married to the late Johnnie M. Clemmons. Wilmer was employed for many years as a textile worker at Burlington Industries and was a member of Staley Memorial Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother, devoting herself to her family, church and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory, 2 sons, Homer "P.nut" Milton Alene Clemmons and Johnnie Milton Robin Clemmons, all of Burlington; 3 daughters, Helen Marie Hardy of Hollywood, FL, Betty Ruth Tommy Pritchett of Elon and Joy Dale Bill McCaskill of Burlington; 17 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; and a sister, Annie Squires of Danville, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Jones; sisters, Edna Kernodle and Pauline Leonard, a brother, Homer Kernodle; sons-in-law, Sam Hardy and Curtis Jones and grandchildren, Sandy Byrd, A. J. Clemmons and Ricky Coble. The funeral will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday, December 7, 2006 at Staley Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Bennie Smith and Rev. Rodney Staley officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 6:45 PM Thursday prior to the service at the church. The graveside service will be at 11:00 AM Friday, December 8, 2006 at Alamance Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Staley Memorial Baptist Church, 1446 N. Graham-Hopedale Rd., Burlington, NC 27217 or to the Hospice Home, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215.
