William Yarborough, Sr.

Burlington - Mr. William Clayton Yarborough, Sr., went home to his heavenly Father on October 25, 2017.
A native of Person County, he was the husband of the late Rebecca Ruth Yarborough to whom he was married for 47 years, and the son of P.H. Yarborough and Mary C. Yarborough, both deceased. He was an Air Force veteran, and proudly retired from Piedmont Natural Gas following 41 years of service. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church where he was a trustee, and enjoyed working outside on the church landscaping, and volunteering in various activities. He loved "piddlin'" outside, planting flowers, mowing, raking leaves and helping his neighbors. He spent several years coaching youth baseball, girls' softball, and adult softball, where he was able to influence many young lives in a positive way. He loved playing golf with family and friends. His goal in golf was to shoot his age. He enjoyed his weekly card games with his beloved friends.
He is survived by his son, William Clayton Yarborough Jr. (Yank) and wife, Susan, of Burlington; daughters, Cynthia Dawn Yarborough of Mebane and Sandra Darlene Yarborough of Burlington; and grandchildren, Brandon Len Cobb and William Clayton Yarborough III (Clay). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Lewis Yarborough and Sidney Yarborough; and sisters, Margaret Trent, Thelma Slaughter, and Hazel Russell.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Lowe Funeral Home with Rev. Lee Edwards officiating. The burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory on Friday, October 27 from 5:00 to 7:00.
