William Winstead

William Clement “Bill” Winstead Jr. died Dec 5th 2019.  Born in Durham County on August 10th, 1946 to William C. and May Bland Winstead. Mr. Winstead grew up in Roxboro, North Carolina. He attended Christchurch School in Ubana, Virginia and graduated from Roxboro High School. He attended Louisburg College and married his high school sweetheart, Janet Carol Martin, in 1967.  They both graduated from Elon University in 1970 and worked for the University while students there.

After graduation, Mr. Winstead was employed by North State Bank in Burlington. In 1974, he joined Roche Biomedical Laboratories (now LabCorp) as its first credit manager.

In 1984, he and his wife Janet started Travel Reservations, Inc. in Burlington, NC and were known for customized group tours and cruise destinations all over the world.  The first groups consisted of just a few couples which grew over the years to hundreds of people who became “life-long friends”.

Mr. Winstead was a member of Front Street United Methodist Church.  He was formerly a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Elon, where he served on The Administrative Board for many years.

Bill was a devoted husband to his wife Janet, demonstrated by his selfless love and caring for her over 50 years of marriage especially over the past few years.  He was loved by so many people for his compassion and generosity in all aspects of his life.  He had just recently started volunteering at Cone Health Alamance Regional Medical Center which he was proud to support.  He was most excited about spending time with his family who loved him so deeply and who now have a deep void in their lives.

Mr. Winstead is survived by his son, William C. “Chip” Winstead and his wife Leslie Coble Winstead and his grandson, William Aidan Winstead.

Visitation will be held at Lowe Funeral Home on Saturday, Dec 7th, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm.  A private Family Burial will be held in Roxboro, NC Sunday afternoon.
