William Torbett

Mr. William Ward Torbett, age 83, of Liberty, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Liberty Commons after several weeks of failing health.
Born in Marionville, MO, he was the son of the late Huber Alexander Torbett and the late Hazel Agnes Williams Torbett and was married for over 58 years to Mrs. Olive Carolyn Thomson Torbett, who survives. William was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War, he then was employed with AT&T before retiring with over 32 years of service. William enjoyed woodworking as a hobby and created many projects in his shop. He also loved the outdoors and was an expert gardener. William and his wife, Carolyn were long time members of Alamance Presbyterian Church and while his health permitted, he was active in church work and served as an Elder and a Sunday School teacher for many years. William was a very devoted family man to his wife, children and grandchildren and will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
Mr. Torbett is survived by his wife of the home; a daughter, Margaret Metzger and husband, Richard, of Jackson, WI; two sons, Patrick Torbett and wife, Melissa, of Geary, OK and Thomas Torbett and wife, Kelli, of Marionville, MO; twelve grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a sister, Josephine Drake of Minnesota; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Martha Lee Torbett, Louise Weld and Dixie Schafer; a brother, John Wesley Torbett; brother-in-law, Jack Thomson; and two nephews, Lawrence Weld and Andrew Thomson.
The family will be conducting services at 2:00 Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Marionville, MO.
