Mr. William Bill Earl Taylor of Burlington, NC died Monday, September 3, 2007 at Alamance Regional Hospital. He was the husband of the late Miriam Keifer Taylor for 58 years when she died in September 2002. He was born March 5, 1918 in Richmond, KY. He went on to graduate from Eastern Kentucky University and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He served in the Army during World War II in the European Theater of Operations. William taught Industrial Arts in Greensboro North Carolina Public Schools from 1946 1958. He became the director of Industrial Arts & Vocational Education in Greensboro Public Schools from 1958 - 1962. Following that he became the President of Alamance Community College where he served in that capacity until his retirement in 1982. He held offices in the following North Carolina Vocational Association, North Central Schoolmasters Club, Alamance Community Action Program, The National Council of Local Administrators of Vocational Education & Practical Arts, Alamance County Chamber of Commerce, the Salvation Army Advisory Board and The Boys & Girls Advisory Council in Burlington, the Cherokee Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Alamance County United Way. He was the recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award of North Carolina Vocational Association, the Certificate of Merit from the American Vocational Association, an Honorary Degree Doctor of Laws from Elon College and a member of the Hall of Distinguished Alumni from Eastern Kentucky University. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Burlington where he had served as an Elder and volunteered with Habitat of Humanity. He is survived by his daughter Jane Taylor Jarvis and husband Kenneth L. Jarvis, Jr. sons, Steven Todd Taylor, and Timothy Daniel Taylor, grandchildren, Jennifer Jarvis, Kenneth Jarvis III, Christopher Jarvis and his wife Dana, Rebeca Taylor and Meagan Taylor, two great grandchildren Lyza Karoly Jarvis and Andreas Oliver Jarvis, extended family Wendy Taylor, Anne Partna-Jarvis, and Riki Tindall. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington, NC on Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. The Family will receive friends in the John Knox room immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to The First Presbyterian Church of Burlington, 508 W.
