William Hodges

William S. Hodges, 81, of The Village at Brookwood passed away Saturday, September 22, 2007 after a lengthy illness. He was born September 14, 1926 to the late William Snowden Hodges, Sr. and the late Mathilda Griffith Hodges in Howard County, MD. He was the husband of Louise Randall Hodges who survives. He was also previously married to the late Rose Marie Buchness Hodges for 38 years. William served in the U.S. Navy during WW II then went on to graduate from Loyola College. He worked in the baking industry most of his life as a chemist and engineer eventually retiring from Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. He was quite proud of his membership in the Black Sheep Fraternity. He was a member of The Holy Comforter Episcopal Church and was very active in the social life of the Village at Brookwood even organizing the Bridge Club and the Mens Friday Night Dinner Club. Survivors include his wife Louise Randall Hodges of Burlington, daughters; Weedie Barnard and her husband Robert of Wilmington, NC, Rose Marie Cook and her husband Rick of Greensboro, NC, Chocolate H. Hodges of Hickory, NC, Marionette Baxter and her husband Thomas of Hickory, NC, Judy Brumley and her husband Jimmy of Elon, NC, Ginger Hardy and her husband Richard of Greensboro, NC. Sons; William Hodges III, and his wife Stacy Anne of Hickory, NC, Joe Hodges and his wife Mary Beth of Bel Air, MD, Bob Hodges and his wife Jan of Clemmons, NC, John Hodges and his wife Paula of Greensboro, NC. Siblings; a sister Adelaide H. Jones of Catonsville, MD, and a brother Thomas Cranmer Griffith Hodges of Ft. Worth, TX. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Robert Benjamin Barnard and his wife Saskia, Katherine Lynn Barnard, Jane Marie Cook, Timothy Alan Cook, Meredith Ellen Setzer and her husband Shea, Rose Marie Buchness Hodges, Brianna Leigh Howard, Sarah Catherine Hodges, Lauren Elizabeth Hodges, Jacqueline Olivia Hodges, William Joseph Hodges, Thomas Hodges Baxter, Emily Anderson Baxter, Robert E. Lee Hodges, Jr., Claire Gayle Hodges, Megan Grace Brumley, James Edward Brumley III, Michael Christian Hodges, Brian Joseph Hodges, Jeanne Marie Hodges, John Adam Hardy, Catherine Marie Hardy and a great grandson Jonas Hart Barnard. Step-children; Terri Savage, Randee Duncan, Kemp Freund, Whitt Freund, and John Freund.. He was preceded in death by his first wife, parents, a brother John Hodges and a granddaughter Anna Marie Hardy. The celebration of his life will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at the Holy Comforter Episcopal Church by Rector Wilson Carter. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. and at other times at the home of Judy Brumley, 202 Brighton Dr., Elon. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215 and Greensboro Hospice, 2502 Summit Ave, Greensboro, NC 27405. The family would like to thank Dr. James Deterding, Dr. Lauretta Odogwu and Dr. Frank Allusio and the staff of the Village at Brookwood for their care and compassion to their father.
