Mr. William Wesley "Bill" Newell, age 77, of Gibsonville, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2015 after a sudden illness. A native of Guilford County, he was the son of the late Julius Page Newell and the late Mary Lucy Lowe Newell and was married for over 45 years to Mrs. Joann Sawyer Newell, who survives. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and retired from AT&T after 34 years of service. William was a longtime member of Apple's Chapel Christian Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Missions Committee member, along with singing in the choir and completing many of the tasks that no one else was willing to undertake. He was a Chief Judge for Guilford County Board of Elections and on the Board of Directors at Fire Station #28. He was an avid aircraft and railroad enthusiast and was a very active supporter of JAARS Jungle Aviation and Radio Service. Mr. Newell is survived by his wife of the home; a brother, Wayne Jean Newell of Jamestown; two sisters, Betty Claude Permar of Greensboro and Amy Eddie Turner of Kernersville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Apple's Chapel Christian Church Cemetery by Rev. Dave Johnson and Rev. C. Allen Myers, III. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
