William Lowe, Sr.

Burlington William Edgar Lowe, Sr., age 79, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 16, 2012 at his home after 15 months of failing health and 3 weeks of critical illness. He was born June 28, 1932 to the late Edd and Laura Mozelle Apple Lowe and was the husband of Shirley Chapman Lowe of the home. Ed grew up on a tobacco farm, and as a teenager worked as a carpenter with his grandfather, Jim Apple. He later worked in a cotton mill until he joined the US Navy in 1951 where he served on the USS Earnest G. Small DDR 838. After his honorable discharge from the service, he worked as an automotive technician at AlamanceMotors, Ed Love Chevrolet and Sears Automotive where he later retired. He then continued his education and graduated from Barber School in Winston Salem. Ed was a longtime member of Grove Park Baptist church where he served as a Deacon from 19571965. He is survived by his loving wife; a son, Ed Lowe, II and wife Beth of Elon; daughter, Elaine Bunting and husband Wayne of Burlington; stepdaughter, Tammy Dove and husband Ray of Graham; stepson, William Lewis of Burlington; grandchildren, Will Lowe, Sam Lowe, Chris Bunting and wife Sheila, Greg Bunting and wife Jennifer, Dustin Dove, Ashley Lewis; two great grandchildren; sisters, Tempie Lowe Ruff of Richmond, VA, Josie Gurkin, Barbara Clark and husband Keith and Lucille Richardson, all of Burlington; a brother, Rastus E. Lowe of Elon and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Herma Lowe King. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, March 19 at Grove Park Baptist Church by Dr. Gene Hunsinger and Rev. Bill Vickrey with the entombment to follow at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Sunday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
