William Hollar, Sr.

William Mack "Bill" "W.M." Hollar, Sr. went home to be with his heavenly family on Monday, November 26, 2012. He was born in Wilkes County to the late Theodore Roosevelt Hollar and Alma Florence Perdue Hollar Wilson. He was married to Shirley Waddell Hollar for 54 years who survives. He taught Automotive Technology at Graham High School for several years. Bill was a U.S. Navy veteran and a former commander of American Legion Post #63. W.M. was the founder of Mack's Chapel Church which was held weekly at the shop in memory of his son, Mack. He was a race car driver for several years, competing in the Nascar Winston Cup for over ten years. He received the Alan Kulwicki Award and drove the cars # 29, 88 and 02. He is survived by his wife of the home; sons, Kenneth Phyllis Hollar and Joseph Lisa Hollar, all of Burlington; grandchildren, Carrie Lynn Rudd, Brandon Joseph Hollar, Joshua Lance Brogden and great grandchildren, Cole Kenneth Phelps and Savannah Brogden. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, William Mack Hollar, Jr., brothers, Franklin Delano Hollar, Jim Hollar and sisters, Louise H. Ball and Mary H. Evans. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel with entombment to follow at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at the funeral home and other times at the son's home, Kenneth Hollar, 614 Maple Ave., Burlington.
