Burlington-William “Richard” Gerringer, Sr., 79, gained his wings on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 surrounded by his family. A native of Alamance County, he was born on September 6, 1942 to the late Albert Clayton and Grace Mary Ellis Gerringer and was the husband of 40 years to Sandra “Sandy” Gerringer of the home.
Richard was a longtime member of City Lake Baptist Church where he enjoyed cooking for church gatherings. He was a truckdriver for over 30 years and retired after driving for his son, Ricky. He was very proud of his driving record, safely driving for over 2 million miles. Richard loved telling stories to anyone who would listen. He was an automotive enthusiast, loved drag racing, fishing, baseball and camping. Most of all, he loved being a husband, daddy, pawpaw and friend to many.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy; children, Rick Gerringer and wife Sherri, Kenny Gerringer (deceased), Misty Green and husband Steve, Lyn Gerringer Miller, Jamie Gerringer and wife April; grandchildren, Alan ‘AlleyCat’ Capps, Richie ‘JugHead’ Gerringer, Austin ‘LoverBoy’ Capps, Evan ‘MugBug’ Gerringer, Sawyer ‘SawLee’ Green, Piper ‘HammerHead’ Miller, Shelby ‘ScoobyDoo’ Green, Pacey ‘PaceCar’ Miller, Ryln ‘RubberHead’ Miller and EJ ‘Jamie Jr.’ Gerringer; great grandson, Lane Gerringer and numerous nieces and nephews. Other than his son and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth, Harold and Fred Gerringer and his precious Pomeranian “Penny”.
A service to celebrate his life will be held 1:00pm on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Chris Caudle with the burial to follow at Graham Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Friday at the funeral home and other times at the daughter, Misty’s home in Burlington.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
