Burlington, NC William Douglas Forrest, Sr. age 89, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Twin Lakes. He was born in Greenville, South Carolina to the late William Mitchell Forrest and Grace Vaughn Forrest. He was the husband of the late Virginia Bryant Forrest. Doug retired after working for 30 years with J P Stevens and 10 years with Burlington Industries. He served his country in the Merchant Marines during WW II in the European Theatre. Doug was a member and former Deacon of Holly Hill Baptist Church where he was also a member of the Seekers Sunday School Class. Doug enjoyed the outdoors by fishing and playing golf and he was an avid sports fan. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Survivors include his son, William Douglas Forrest, Jr. and wife, Ellen of Burlington; grandchildren, Julie F. and Bob Gilboe of Waterford, Michigan and Lisa F. and David Moore of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; great granddaughter, Grace H. Moore; sister-in-law, Gwyn Forrest of Clearwater, Florida and a niece, Barbara D. Dycus of Rockingham, NC. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother, Harold Mitchell Forrest and a sister, Elizabeth Belcher. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 10:00 am at the May-Foley Chapel at Twin Lakes by Father Mark Menees. The family will receive friends immediately following the service and other times at his son's home. There will be a private entombment at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, South Carolina on Monday and the body will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory through the services.
