William "Bill" Donaldson, 85, 1213 Shamrock Dr., Burlington, NC moved into the arms of Jesus January 27, 2014 surrounded by his family. He was husband to Regina Wright Donaldson for 63 wonderful years. God gave them three beautiful children; Gail Boswell, Ann Fansler and Paul Donaldson. Gail, wife of Eddie Boswell is the only surviving child. His deceased parents were Kermit and Geneva Donaldson. Bill has ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was a member of Grove Park Baptist Church where he served as Sunday school teacher, deacon and church treasurer. Bill spent three years in the Army Air Corps as a link trainer instructor and ground control approach operator. He attended Elon College and later studied Heating & A/C at the International Correspondent School. He, his father and cousin founded D & W Heating & A/C Co. in Graham. He served as president of Graham Rotary club, A/C Contractors of America, NC Heating & A/C Association and Alamance County Heating & A/C Association. He was instrumental, with the help of Lt. Governor Bob Scott, in getting the General Assembly to pass a law requiring contractors to pass a qualifying examination before they could install heating and A/C in residences. He was involved in writing national engineering manuals used by contractors. He also helped write the heating & A/C curriculum for our NC community colleges. Bill taught Heating & A/C for several years at ACC. Bill was a man of great faith and determination who loved to serve God in missions work. He helped construct church buildings in Snow Camp, Durham, West Virginia and South Dakota. He was president of Builders for Christ with a membership of 250. Builders for Christ furnished materials and labor to construct 14 church parsonages; 12 in WV, 1 in SC, and 1 in SD. While they built the parsonages more than 280 precious souls prayed to receive Christ as Savior and Lord of their life. When Builders for Christ shut down because of Bill's health, they gave all their tools and $33, 000 to the Baptist Men of NC for disaster relief. Bill liked to play golf and work in his shop. He made many grandfather clocks that are enjoyed by people as far away as GA, NY and Seattle, WA. He also made many wooden bowls and gave them to his friends. One of his true loves was to teach the Bible at church and rest homes. The family sends our thanks and appreciation to Phoebe Cole and Loudelle King for their loving and tender care of Bill while under Hospice care. Lowe Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral service. There will be a private interment at Alamance Memorial Park prior to a public memorial service at 11 AM Friday at Grove Park Baptist Church with Dr. Gene Hunsinger officiating. Family visitation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Alamance Caswell Hospice, 914 Chapel Hill Rd, Burlington, NC 27215.
