Elon William Lacy DeWeese, age 78, of Manning Ave. passed away Sunday, December 14, at Hospice Home. A native of Sophia, W.VA, he was the son of the late Jacob Andrew & Nettie Belle Milam DeWeese. Mr. DeWeese served 16 1/2 yrs. in the U.S. Air Force, then 3 1/2 yrs. in the U.S. Army before retirement. He served a tour in Vietnam then worked for the Dept. of Defense & then became a Missionary to the Military in Naples, Italy. Survivors include his wife, Sallie Marie Steiner DeWeese; children, Debi Moore & husband, Carlo Gangale, Mark DeWeese & wife, Tina, Kristi Vernon & husband, Mike and Sherri Dyer & husband, Mark; grandchildren, Joshua Lewis, Kaycie Wiggins & husband, Gabe, Bethany Sanders & husband, Brian, Dylan DeWeese, Bobby Clonch & wife, Tiffany, Curan Clonch & wife, Kristen, Nate Clonch & wife, Laura, Faith Minner & husband, Matt, Isaiah Clonch, Lacey Dyer, Abigail Dyer, Traeger Dyer, Dawson Dyer & 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Carol Staggs, Rita Boyles, Jewell DeWeese and Judy Hylton; brothers, Kenneth DeWeese, Lawrence DeWeese and Paul DeWeese; sisters-in-laws, Barbara Cotton and Ellen DeWeese. He was preceded in death by Nancy Kidwell DeWeese, his wife of 30 years and mother of his children; 3 sisters and 4 brothers. Funeral services will be held at 7:00pm on Thursday, Dec.18, 2014 in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Bud Calvert and Rev. Ken Jackson. Mr. DeWeese will remain at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory through the funeral service. The family will receive friends and host a reception in honor of their husband & father following the funeral service. Interment will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Testament Baptist Church, Missions Project; 1001 Springwood Ave. Gibsonville, NC 27249.
