Mr. Wilkie Burton Rainey, age 81, of 2289 Lee Dr., slipped away peacefully to go home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 23, 2010 at the Hospice Home surrounded by his family. Born in Halifax County, NC, he was the son of the late Wilkie Collins Rainey and the late Maggie Hudson Rainey. He was raised by his "momma' and "papa", Mittie and Walter Rainey, who helped establish Brookwood Baptist Church. He was married for a lifetime to Mrs. Tina Rainey, who survives. Wilkie was a Medic in the U.S. Navy and he later retired from Burlington Industries after 35 years of service. He was a longtime member of Burlington Assembly of God and helped deliver meals for the Caring Kitchen. Wilkie was a very avid Duke Blue Devil and Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed working in his yard. Mr. Rainey is survived by his wife of the home; three daughters, Nicky R. Kernodle and her husband, Frank, of Myrtle Beach, SC, Simone Beam Riley of the home and Stephanie R. Ward and her fiance, Jimmy Tallent of Spartanburg, SC; two grandchildren, Randall Burton Beam and Frank Clayton Kernodle; and his loving Yorkie, Pebbles. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, April 25, 2010 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Howard Thompson. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215.
