Burlington-W.G. Phillips, 68, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015 at his home. A native of Mitchell County, he was born April 11, 1947 to the late Carter and Millie Byrd Phillips. W.G. worked with Cederberg Kitchens and Additions for over 20 years before being self-employed and then retiring. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and was an avid UNC Tarheel sports fan. He is survived by his brothers, Edward Phillips of Bakersville and Chester Phillips of Marion; sisters, Vola Stewart and Virginia "Ginny" Murrell, both of Gibsonville; a brother-in-law, Delmer Greeson; sister-in-laws, Ann Phillips and Carol Phillips and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Homer, Lester, Raymond, Boyd and Richard Phillips and sisters, Viola Bennett and Edna Greeson. A service to celebrate his life will be held 1:00pm on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Donnie Phillips and Rev. Dave Johnson. The family will receive friends at the home of Ginny Murrell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Apple's Chapel at 7345 NC-61, Gibsonville, NC 27249. Read W.G.
