Mr. Wesley “Wes” Alfred Johnson, 88, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, March 28, 2025 at AuthoraCare Hospice Home.
Wes was born February 15, 1937 in Alamance County to Joseph Howard Johnson, Sr. and Wonnie Baker Johnson. He retired after 30 years of service with Lucent Technologies. A longtime member of Altamahaw Baptist Church, he held many roles there, serving as a deacon and singing in the choir. He had an immense love for music and also sang in a gospel quartet at the church. In his free time, Wes loved all things sports related and enjoyed playing a good game of golf or softball. He participated in the softball Senior State Games at the age of 75 and won a medal. Above all, Wes adored his family and loved to make them laugh.
Wes is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joretta Brown Johnson; daughters, Sherry Miller and husband Tim and Jan Strout and husband Bill; and grandchildren, Kyle Strout, Casey Strout, and Wesley Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Vicky Marks Brinkley, Joan Tate, and Mildred Wall; and brothers, Johnny Johnson, and Buck Johnson.
The family wishes to extend love and a special thank you to the staff at AuthoraCare Hospice, as well as heartfelt gratitude to Reverend Walter Jones, Wesley’s pastor, for his faithful daily visits.
The family will receive friends from 9:45 AM - 10:45 AM on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at Lowe Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held immediately following at 11:00 AM at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Alamance Memorial Park.
