Byron Wayne Westbrooks, 76, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024. He was a native of Alamance County and the son of the late Frank William and Marion Frances Sykes Westbrooks. He is the husband of 53 years to Diane Haynes Westbrooks who survives.
Wayne retired from GE after 25 years of service. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and a former deacon of the church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman enjoying nature and the outdoors. He and his wife traveled cross country experiencing the beautiful scenery and sites. Wayne was a Nascar fan back when Dale Earnhardt, known as the “Intimidator” was racing. He enjoyed sports, following the Atlanta Braves, UNC Tarheels and attending his grandchildren’s ball games. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Westbrooks of the home; his daughter, Jennifer Westbrooks of Burlington and his son, Jeff Westbrooks and wife, Lindsay of Mebane; grandchildren, Haley Westbrooks, Jacob Howard and wife, Whitney, Hunter Westbrooks and girlfriend, Avery Griggs, and Tyler Westbrooks; great grandchildren, Elam Overman, Lennon Gutierrez and one on the way, Riley Howard ; sisters, Frances Talley and husband, Jimmy of Burlington and Janet Wrenn of Burlington; brother, Kenneth Westbrooks and wife, Sherrie of Burlington; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his canine companion, “Tripp”.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00pm Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Mike Williams and Pastor Ken Simpson with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Monday, March 11, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home.
