Whitsett – Wayne Ernest Greeson, age 75, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Moses Cone Hospital after a very brief illness. He was a native of Guilford County and the wife of 53 years to Mary Hawk Greeson who survives.
Wayne was the owner and operator of Greeson’s Barber Shop for over 56 years which was a community landmark. He was a longtime member of Mt. Hope United Church of Christ where he and his wife took an active part in preparing the chicken pie/barbeque suppers. Wayne was a proud US Army veteran. He grew up working in his father’s store where he learned at an early age to look after people in the community. Wayne cut hair for many shut-ins and was always willing to lend a helping hand. His family fondly remembers him for always looking out for them and making sure they were safe. His son, Jeff said that his dad spent many hours helping him on various projects.
Survivors include his wife, Mary H. Greeson of the home; son, Jeff Greeson and wife, Angie of Whitsett; grandsons, Tanner and Justin Greeson of Whitsett and a sister, Dee Greeson of Whitsett. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Norman and Juanita Freeman Greeson and a brother, Howard Greeson.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at Mt. Hope UCC Cemetery by Rev. Kristen Gerner-Vaughn. The US Army will provide military honors at the graveside. Wayne will be available for public viewing from 1-5pm on Saturday and on Sunday from 8-noon at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory.
