Burlington, NC Warren Charles Rouse, 91 a native of Staten Island, New York and a longtime resident of Burlington passed away Saturday morning at UNC Memorial Hospital from a stroke. He was with his wife of 66 years, Joy K. Rouse of Burlington, his son, Richard Nathan Rouse of Tahoe, CA and a daughter, Robin Rouse Hurdle of Burlington and his grand dog, Lexie. Warren was a World War II Army Master Sergeant of a special coding group SIGSALY. A top secret special ciphering system known as Green Hornet. Their mission was to maintain and operate the SIGSALY secure voice communication network between army headquarters in Washington and overseas locations throughout the world. This system was never broken by the Germans or Japanese. After service Warren graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University and retired from Western Electric AT & T after 36 years. Warren enjoyed gardening and woodworking and spending time with his family. He was predeceased by his younger brother, Richard Rouse of Mississippi and his older brother, Robert Rouse of New Jersey. He leaves behind a sister-in-law, Betty Rouse of New Jersey and two nieces and their families. Richard's four sons and sister-in-law, Shirley K. Warren and their grandchildren. Sister-in-law, Joan Reynolds and two daughters and their families. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 from 5-7 pm at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times the family will be at the residence. In lieu of flowers the family would like donations made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P O Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. Due to the weather issues the extended family will have a private service in the Spring.
