Mrs. Wanda Marie Dixon Banther, age 79, of 927 Bellvue St., died Friday, July 17, 2009 at Carol Lee Elderly Care Home after two years of failing health. A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late David Daniel Dixon and the late Delores Ellen Baker Dixon and was married to the late Harvey LeRoy Banther, Sr., who died in 2008. She graduated from St. Leo's School of Nursing and retired after serving 32 years as a registered nurse. Wanda was involved in Alamance Community Action 1st Headstart Program, served on the Alamance County Housing Authority and won the World Peace Award when she was a senior at Haw River High School. She attended Haw River United Methodist Church. Mrs. Banther is survived by her two daughters, Lisa Banther Moore and her husband, Joe, and Karen Banther Mitchell and her husband, Bill, all of Liberty; a son, Harvey LeRoy Banther, Jr. and his wife, Tammy, of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren, Kyle Guymon, Bridgett Mitchell, Clanci Foxx, Lindsay Armfield, Aaron Moore, Frances Banther and David Banther; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Darlene Dixon Wright of Haw River and Mattie Ruth Dixon Williams of Mebane; and a special aunt, Helen Baker Brewer of Graham. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and a son, Daniel Willard Banther. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday, July 20, 2009 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jeanne Neal. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:45-10:45 Monday morning prior to the service at the funeral home and at other time s at the home of her daughter, Lisa Moore, 5007 Liberty Grove Rd., Liberty.
