Walter Thomas

Mr. Walter Leo Thomas, age 79, of Carolina Rd., passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at the Hospice Home after one year of failing health and a critical illness of four weeks. A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late Eulas Vance Thomas, Sr. and the late Annie Perry Thomas and was married for over 56 years to the love of his life, Mrs. Betty Compton Thomas, who survives. He retired from Annedeen Hosiery Mill with over 31 years of service. Walter was a true outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing, but was a man that put his family first. One of his greatest joys was going to Wal-Mart, where his wife is employed, to meet and spend time with the customers and employees. Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife of the home; a daughter, Lori Thomas Pickett and her husband, Joey, of Graham; a son, Danny Lynn Thomas and his wife, Cheri, of Mebane; five grandchildren, Kimberly Nichole Pickett, Christopher Daniel Pickett, Katrina Renee Thomas, Kellie Elizabeth Thomas and Hannah Marie Thomas; two great grandchildren, Kellie Nichole Pickett and Lucas David Pickett; four sisters, Edith T. Wall, Edna T. Odell, Janice T. Larry Walker and Lucille Thomas, all of Burlington; and a brother, Larry Dean Thomas of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Cleo Thomas and Juanita T. Vaughn; and three brothers, Eulas Vance Thomas, Jr., Robert Earl Thomas and Phillip Eugene Thomas. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Reid Dickens. Entombment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends and host a reception from 5-7 Tuesday evening at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
