Burlington – Walter Harvey Simmons, 93, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 4, 2019 at Clapp’s Nursing Home in Pleasant Garden. He was born on September 5, 1926 in Hartford County, MD to the late Walter Isaiah Simmons and Elizabeth Lucille Graves Simmons and was married to the late Peggy Sharpe Simmons who died in 2007.
Harvey was the former President of Simmons Construction and was a volunteer with Alamance Recue for many years. He was a member of Harvest Hills Church and “Builders of Christ”. Harvey was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War. He enjoyed traveling the country in his motor home and surf fishing and trolling at the coast with his family. Harvey’s Christian walk was lived out in every aspect of his life.
He is survived by his son, William “Bill” Simmons and wife, Liz; grandchildren, Carey Petricka and husband, Eric, Christina Simmons and Christopher Simmons and wife, Cheyenne; great grandchildren, Zachary and Nikolas Petricka and Karie Simmons; a daughter-in-law, Susan Simmons and a sister, Betty Simmons Johnson. He was preceded in death by his wife; Peggy Sharpe Simmons; a son, Walter “Butch” Simmons; his parents, and a sister, Louise Watson.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Friday, November 8, 2019 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Russell A. Morris. The entombment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum with Military honors provided by the US Army. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm to 1:45pm Friday prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the sons’ home.
