Walter Hensley

Mr. Walter Stevenson Hensley, age 62, of Burlington, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several weeks of failing health. A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late Tommie Hensley and the late Virginia Carleene King Hensley and was married almost 45 years to Mrs. Shelia Adams Hensley, who survives. Walter was employed with Soft Socks, Inc. for over 39 years and was currently employed with Carolina Hosiery. He was a long time member and Deacon of City Lake Baptist Church. Walter loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and he also enjoyed hunting, fishing and many other outdoor activities. Mr. Hensley is survived by his wife of the home; his son, Walter Darrell Hensley of Burlington; his daughter, Dara Hensley Rickards and her husband, Bruce, of Burlington; six grandchildren, Walter Darius Hensley, Kaylyn Hensley, Honestie Hensley, Miranda Hensley, Brynley Rickards and Callen Rickards; a sister, Pattie Gail Hensley of Burlington; a brother, Edwin Hensley Lassiter of Haw River; best friends, Sandy and Richard Gerringer; and his loving dog, "Precious". He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Vernon Lassiter. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, April 3, 2015 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Curtis Oakley. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Saturday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
