Walter Norman Garrison, 76, of Stoney Creek Church Rd. passed away Friday January 21, 2011, at the Hospice Home following several months of failing health. He was the husband of Barbara Shepherd Garrison for 51 years. Norman was born April 6, 1934 in Alamance County to the late Walter Holt and Marie McCulloch Garrison. He served in the US Army, and was awarded the Expert Infantryman Badge. He graduated from NCSU where he was inducted into the Alpha Zeta Fraternity an honor fraternity for agriculture students. Norman was the Farm Manager at the Richard T. Fountain Training School for Boys in Rocky Mount and former agriculture teacher at Johnston County Technical College. He retired from Leon Gilliam & Sons and was an active member of Union Ridge Church. He had served as the Treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon and Sunday School teacher. Survivors include his wife of the home, a son Mark Russell Holt Garrison of Raleigh, sisters; Sara Jo Kruchten of Mechanicsville, VA, Lucille Don Wilson of Fletcher, NC a brother John Kathy Garrison of Burlington, several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held 12:00 PM Monday at Union Ridge Church by Rev. Dan. Ficklin. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Sunday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. and at other times at the home of his brother John Garrison, 1543 Stoney Creek Church Rd. Memorials may be made to the Activities Center at Union Ridge Church, 115 Altamahaw Union Ridge Rd, Burlington, NC 27217.
