Walter Conklin, Jr.

Walter Delmar Conklin, Jr. 85, of Wagoner Rd. went home to be with the Lord Monday, September 29, 2008 at the Homeplace of Burlington. Mr. Conklin was born September 28, 1923 in Alamance County to the late Walter Delmar Conklin, Sr. and Lillie Caulder Conklin. Mr. Conklin retired from Western Electric / Lucent Technologies, was a member of Christian Life Center of the Assembly of God, and was a WW II Army veteran where he received a purple heart. Survivors include his wife of 63 years Sally Sheppard Conklin of the home; two sons, Dennis Conklin and his wife Angie of Gibsonville, and Donnie Conklin and his wife Jo Anne of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Debbie Slaughter of Haw River; seven grandchildren, Brent Conklin, Chris Conklin, Chad Slaughter, Jeremy Slaughter, Jessica Qualls, Stephanie Conklin, and Donna Foltz; nineteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Lloyd Conklin and his wife Mary of Graham and Coy Conklin and his wife Peggy of Jamestown, NC; three sisters, Barbara Clark and her husband, Frank of Siler City, Pearl Moran and her husband, D.A. of Burlington, and Eva Dale Davis and her husband Bob of Siler City; and a sister-in-law, Kathleen Conklin of Durham. Walter was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth J. Conklin; two sisters, Gaynell Conklin and Vernell Conklin; and a son-in-law, Danny Slaughter. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at Christian Life Center by the Rev. Bruce Ritter. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at Dennis Conklin's home, 7104 Claren Oaks Ct., Gibsonville.
