Vivian Horton Hopkins, 91, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 21, 2022. She was born in Person County to the late Baisley Graves Horton and Bessie Lea Cates Horton. Vivian was married for over 70 years to Mark Lewis Hopkins, Sr. who died on December 18, 2021. She was formerly employed by Cone Mills and attended The Gathering.
Vivian loved to cook and sometimes would make dishes for others, especially on holidays. Her turkey dressing was a favorite. She loved her flowers and really had a “green thumb” for house plants. Her daughter Ann inherited that same “green thumb”. Vivian loved to layer her clothes and her favorite colors were orange and brown.
At Christmas, Vivian loved to cook lemon squares, dressing and make lime punch. Those recipes were handed down to her children and grandchildren… they are still fixed today and bring back fond memories of Vivian. She loved shopping and always bought purses, shoes and clothes. She collected salt and pepper shakers and would bring back a set when she traveled or went on vacation.
Vivian loved God and loved to go to church. She also loved gospel music and her favorite song was “How Great Thou Art”. She also liked country music and her favorite singers were Ray Price and Don Gibson. She loved to watch “Hee Haw” and “The Dailey & Vincent” shows on tv. Vivian was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who truly enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Mark L. Hopkins, Jr. (Jean), Ann Nutter (Roger), Earl Hopkins, Cynthia Jones (C.W.) and Kenneth Hopkins (Peggy); 16 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Clifton Ray Hopkins; grandsons, Daniel Lee Hopkins and Jeffrey Lee Hopkins; great grandson, Jackson Dudley and siblings, Leonard Warren Horton, Robert Ira Horton and Wilma Odell Horton Ward.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 24, 2022 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. John Shields with burial to follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 9:45–10:45 AM Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service and other times at the home of her daughter, Cynthia Jones.
