Virginia Powell Moore, 86, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 16, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born on May 13, 1936 in Warren County to the late John Wesley Powell and Emily Kingsberry Powell.
Virginia retired from Fairystone Manufacturing, a division of Glen Raven Mills after many years of service. She was a member of Children’s Chapel United Church of Christ and enjoyed flower gardening and working with children. Virginia took pride in taking care of her home both inside and out. Virginia also enjoyed socializing and chatting with others at the PACE Senior Care Community Center. Ms. Moore was a blessed breast cancer survivor! People loved her sense of humor and her quick wit, especially her special friend of 30 years, Mr. Clyde Leath.
She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. Virginia was an honorary aunt, sister, grandmother to family, friends, and children in her community.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, James Wesley Powell; sons, William G. Powell, LaMonte Powell and Clyde L. Powell; sisters, Cassie "Pearl" Shepherd, Dorothy "Grey" Bowles and Evelyn West Rainey and grandchild, Tiffany Nelson.
She is survived by her daughter, Portia Powell of Raleigh, North Carolina; daughter-in-law, Donna Powell (the late LaMonte Powell) of Graham; son, Floyd L. Harris (Rosalind) of Los Angeles, California; 8 grandchildren, Tene' Powell, Taylor Harris, Elliott Powell, Evan Powell, Tobby Nelson, Roger T. Haith, Javaris Powell and Felicia Alston and 6 great grandchildren, Cassidy Cruz, Syncere Haith, Tynasia Nelson, Alliyah Mitchell, Kalia Powell and Kenydi Powell; sister, Alice Alexander (Savoy) of Depew, Oklahoma; and brother, Ernest Powell (Rita) of Cleveland, Ohio.
The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Friday, March 24, 2023 at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory. A Service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, March 25, 2023at 2:00pm at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Rodney K. Foxx. The repass will be held immediately after service at Blackwell's, 1014 Sharpe Road, Burlington, NC 27217.
