Virgie Turner Matherly of Burlington passed away Wednesday, January 26, at Alamance Health Care Center in Burlington, NC. She was born in Danville, VA on July 22, 1916, to the late Joseph Edd Turner and Toy Lee Wells Turner. She was a charter member of Saint Johns United Church of Christ and was a former employee of Burlington Industries. She was a devoted wife and Mother and a vibrant, active lady with a fun-loving outlook on life. She enjoyed her family and friends, her church, music, travel, crafts, walking and many other activities. Survivors include son, James C. Matherly, Jr and his wife Patricia of Burlington, sister, Lorraine Turner Sheffield of Torrance, California, step-grandson Johnathan W. Smith, step-great-grandchildren Jacob Smith and Tricia Smith of Burlington and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Matherly, Sr., brothers Paul Clayton Turner, Sr., Clyde Green Turner, Sr., Julius Clay Turner, Floyd Lee Turner Sr., Joe Henry Turner, Edward Braxton Turner Sr., Charles Rayford Turner Sr. and sister, Doris Marie Turner Raines. The funeral service will be conducted in the chapel at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory in Burlington on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. by Reverend Lee Pittard. The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory in Burlington from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday January 28, 2011 and at other times at the home of Jimmy and Patricia Matherly in Burlington.
