Violet Oakley Walters, 83, formerly of North Avenue, passed away on Monday, November 2, 2015 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Burlington and was the daughter of the late Thomas Fountain Oakley and the late Callie Mae Hylton Oakley. She retired from Western Electric after 38 years of service and she was a member of Glen Hope Baptist Church and the Mildred Overman Sunday School Class. She really enjoyed attending CWA Pioneer Luncheons with her co-workers and playing Bingo at Edgewood Baptist Church in Mebane. She is survived by her son, Gary Lynn Walters of Mebane and grandchildren, Lance Aaron Walters and Callie Elisha Walters. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Debbie Norris, parents, three sisters, Evelyn Jones, Ivadell Richmond and Maureen Tate and a brother, Thomas Edgar Oakley. The funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday at Glen Hope Baptist Church by Rev. Bob Stephenson with interment to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 1:45 Wednesday prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 812 North Anthony St., Burlington, NC 27217 or to Allied Churches of Alamance County, PO Box 2581, Burlington, NC 27216.
