Vincent James Scurria, age 81, of Gibsonville, NC passed away to life everlasting on Monday, April 18th. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Salvatore and Mary Scurria, Jim met his loving wife Trudy while serving in the US Army Signal Corps in Salzburg, Austria. Jim was a career Western Electric/AT&T employee who rose through the ranks from technical installer to managing the US Navy and the Middle East Foreign Military sales accounts. His assignments were as varied as his talents. He relished his time upgrading the communication systems on the US Navy aircraft carrier fleet and, later, his time traveling the world together with Trudy. He took great pride in his five sons and gave all the credit for their success to their mother. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Rose Hurney and her husband Don. He is survived by his sister, Yolanda Smallhoover and her husband Mark; his loving wife of 58 years, Trudy; and five sons and wonderful daughters-in-law: James and Susan; Michael and Paula; Daniel and Sarah; David and Ximena; and Mark and Amy along with many loving grandchildren who will miss their Grandpap greatly. Jim was also beloved by many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews that will feel his absence. A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, April 23rd at 2:00pm at Christ United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Jim to the Duke Cancer Institute.
