Vernon Miles

Mebane, NC Vernon Brooks Miles, age 86, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 surrounded by his family. He was a native of Caswell County and the son of the late Robert Edward and Fannie Celestia Rudd Miles. Vernon retired from Southern Bell Telephone and Telecommunications after many years of service. He was a member of People's Memorial Christian Church and a veteran of the US Army serving during WWII. Vernon was a member of the Burlington Masonic Lodge # 721 AF & AM and the Amran Temple in Creedmore, NC. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. Survivors include his daughters, Vickie Queen and her husband, Gary of Maiden, NC, Jackie Lynn Byrd and her husband, John of Burlington, NC and Penny Doby of Mebane, NC; eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; former wife, Danez Joyner Miles of Elon, NC; sisters, Christine Blanchard of Burlington, NC and Jerry Hoffman of Lake Junaluska, NC; brother, Larry Miles of Burlington, NC. He was preceded in death by his son, Harold Vernon "Buster" Miles; grandson, John Byrd, Jr.; parents; sister, Sarah Miles Hoffman and also the loving mother of his children, Kathleen Johnson. The funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at People's Memorial Christian Church by Rev. John Shields and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church and other times at the home.
