Vernon Coy Allison, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at home surrounded by his family. He was a native of Alamance County and was the son of the late Marion Watson Allison and Mozelle Pegram Allison. Vernon was married for 64 years to Frances Gatlin Allison who passed away on March 5, 2015. Mr. Allison retired from Western Electric / AT&T after 34 years of service. He was a member of Glen Hope Baptist Church, a founding member of the Friends Sunday school class and a long-time member of Builders for Christ who built homes for ministers in underprivileged communities. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his daughter, Donna (John) Terrell of Burlington; son, Randy (Michelle) Allison of Belews Creek; grandchildren, Leslie Ray, Spencer (Staci) Poplin, Reagan (Vann) Swaim; great grandchildren, Allison Ray, Ethan Poplin, Logan Poplin and Addison Jade Swaim and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sisters, Betty Taylor, Barbara Allison and brothers, Eugene, Willard, Floyd and Harold Allison. The funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Larry Redding and Rev. Bob Stephenson. The graveside service will be private. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home.
