Tommy Denzel Scoggins, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his wife and children on Friday May 3, 2024, in Mebane, North Carolina. Born on April 4,1935 in Guilford County. He was raised in McLeansville by his parents Blanche Scoggins Harvell and Earlie Harvell.
Tommy was valedictorian at McLeansville High School, class of 1953, where he was class president all four years. He attended the University of North Carolina, studying mathematics. He left school to support his family and build a business, but finished his studies later in his life, earning his degree in Management and Ethics at John Wesley University, graduating Summa Cum Laude.
Tommy was an avid entrepreneur opening and operating P&S Machine Company; Diversified Manufacturing & Marketing; 3D Graphics; Scoggins Manufacturing and several others over the span of his career. Along with this Tommy was an inventor holding several patents. He enjoyed sports, coaching little league Baseball & Basketball teams sponsored by P&S Machine which became known as The Swing Machine (named after one of his inventions). Also, he coached the Graham Rubi-Otts, women’s softball team. He was a member of The Gideons International, for 35 years. He always took the opportunity to witness for Jesus Christ and share the Gospel of our Lord.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents; sons, David Timothy Scoggins and Joel Ray Scoggins and his brothers Bobby Scoggins and Billy Scoggins. His memory will be forever held in the hearts of his surviving family: his wife Becky; his children, Mike(Annie), Amy(David), Pam, Sid(Caryn) and Tommy Gene and their mother Barbara Englebright Scoggins; his seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; his step-children Jeff Fender and Amy Fender; his seven step-grandchildren, and three step-great grandchildren; his brothers Earlie (Junior) Harvell, Jr, Howard Harvell, James (J.W.) Harvell, and George Harvell; his sisters Nancy Harvell Worley, Sylvia Harvell Gardner, Linda Harvell Medley; and many nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Tommy's life will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 1:00PM by Elder Wayne Jones at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel located at 2205 S Church St., Burlington, NC 27215. The family will receive visitors prior to the service at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory from 11:30-12:45PM and other times at the home. Following the service, Tommy will be laid to rest at Alamance Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the Scoggins family kindly requests donations be made to the Gideons International in Tommy's honor, to support the mission he so loved; or AuthoraCare Collective (Hospice). The family greatly appreciates the assistance in Tommy’s care both physical and emotional provided by AuthoraCare.
Tommy Denzel Scoggins will be remembered as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His legacy will live on in his descendants and his work with the Gideons.
