Tommy Bray

Tommy Bray, 85, passed away Monday, January 25, 2021 at Authoracare Hospice in Burlington.

A native of Banks County, GA, he was the son of the late Sears Hubbard and Gladys Mize Bray and the wife of Jeanne Cheek Denny Bray who survives.

Tommy was a retired Captain with the Burlington Police Department, during which time he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice at Guilford College. He was also a US Navy Veteran and served during. the Korean War, He attended Burlington Assembly of God and was very active with the church mission team for many years.

Tommy was passionate about playing golf, playing poker with his friends, fishing and helping people.  He traveled extensively after retirement and developed a special love for Montana and Yellowstone National Park.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Cheek Denny Bray of the home, Son, Joel Scott Bray of Burlington, step children Vicky Hayes and husband Mike of Burlington, Ellen Denny of Graham, Mark Denny and wife Martha of Burlington and Jan Tate and husband Kelly of Burlington; three  grandchildren, Danielle, Molly and Matthew and wife, Hannah Lunsford; nineteen step grandchildren, great grandchild Eva Lunsford, son in law, Michael Lunsford; sisters, Betty Connell and husband Max of Greensboro and Carolyn Bray Page and husband Ed of Reidsville and a host of nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his first wife Barbara Ann Barber Bray; daughter Tanya Jo Lunsford, sister Barbara Bray and a brother Bill Bray.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private funeral service for immediate family will be held at 2:00pm Sunday January 31, 2021 in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Howard Thompson.  The service will be live streamed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Tommy’s memory to Authoracare Collective Burlington Campus. (Hospice of Alamance-Caswell).
