Thressa Hamlett

Elon - Thressa "Pete" Gerringer Hamlett, 83, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after five weeks of failing health. She was born on June 8, 1934 in Alamance County to the late Pollard Milton Gerringer and Alma Lee Fitts Gerringer and was married for 58 years to the late Norman Gray "Hambone" Hamlett who died in 2013.

Thressa retired after 24 years with GE in Mebane and formerly worked at Spencer-Love Hosiery Mill. She was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church where she was active in various committees; Ladies Fellowship, Stewardship Committee, Care and Share Club, the coordinator of Meals on Wheels at the church and a member of the Morning Star Sunday School Class. She enjoyed flower arranging for her family and friends; loved working in her vegetable garden and especially growing and tending to her rose gardens. She was known for her baking skills with her chocolate pies, pound cakes and brownstone cakes, and being an Avon representative since 1978. Thressa was always ready to lend a helping hand to others - she served others before herself.

Survivors include her daughters, Joyce H. Poole and husband, Hampton "Buck" and Jean H. Maness and husband, Mark; grandchildren, Hampton R. "Tripp" Poole and wife, Buffy, Sarah Gray Poole, Matthew Lee Maness and wife, Shauna, and Michael William Maness; great grandchildren, Hunter Ryan Poole and Sydney-Paige Poole; sisters, Ruby McAlister and husband, Larry and Dazel Oakley; brother, Bruce Gerringer and wife, Peggy; brother-in-law, Richard Lee Shockley and wife, Annie; sisters-in-law, Beth Canada and husband, Eddie, Diane Pritchett and husband, Aubrey. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and infant daughter, Billie Ann Hamlett.

The funeral service will be held 11:00am Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Bethlehem Christian Church by Rev. Todd Felkel with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8pm at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
