Thomas "Tommy" Truitt

Thomas “Tommy” Ervin Truitt, 68, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family after a two-year battle with cancer on Thursday, May 7, 2020.  He was born in Alamance County to the late Walter Jack Truitt and Ollie Lee Edmonds Truitt and was married for 50 years to Gloria R. Truitt who survives.  He was the former assistant plant manager for Caraustar where he worked for almost 50 years.  Tommy loved rebuilding and restoring old cars, attending the Run to the Sun car show at Myrtle Beach and the Pigeon Forge car show in the fall.  He also enjoyed racing his dragster at Farmington and Piedmont Drag Strip where he won the championship in 2002.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria; daughters, Lisa McCracken (Bruce), Jennifer Bohigas (Brandon); grandchildren, Greg, Kyle and Tate McCracken, Hunter Truitt, PFC. Aaron Norman and Haleigh Cornelison; sister, Martha Sue Ragan (Wayne); brothers, Curtis Truitt, Clyde Truitt, Howard Truitt, Doug Truitt (Wanda) and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Bobby G. Truitt (Doris), sisters, Betty T. Cox (Curtis), Virginia T. Satterfield, Sarah T. Garrison (Tommy) and sister-in-law, Judy Truitt.

The family would like to say a special “Thank You” to the doctors, nurses and staff at Cone Health Cancer at ARMC, Duke Cancer Center and Hospice of Alamance.

A private service to celebrate his life will be held 11:00 AM Monday, May 11, 2020 by Rev.
