Thomas “Pat” Patterson Sellars, Jr., 89, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2019 in Moses Cone Hospital. He was born December 21, 1929 in Alamance County to the late Thomas P. and Ida Stucky Sellars and was married to June Winn Sellars for sixty-seven years. Pat graduated from Burlington High School in 1949 where he played football and baseball and then attended Elon College. He served in the US Army Signal Corps. Pat retired from the City of Burlington Engineering Department after thirty-three years of service. He was a member of First Christian United Church of Christ and led Boy Scout Troops there for many years. After his retirement he worked at Stoney Creek Golf Course. He enjoyed reading books, sitting on the deck, playing golf and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, June Winn Sellars; children, Patti (Robert) Strange, Dotti (Ron) Davis, Randy (Tomee) Sellars, Jill (Nevin) Caldwell; grandchildren, Jimmy (Natalie) Simpson, Robbie (Paige) Strange, Emily Strange, Amanda (Jessie) Goplin, Abby Sellars, Tyler (Alex) Carroll, Grant Sellars, Reed (Ali) Wilson, Sarah Morgan Davis, and Emma Caldwell; great grandchildren, Jack and Drew Simpson, Thomas and Ellis Strange, Grey Wilson and Ellie Sellars. He is also survived by a sister Faye Sellars Strickland; sister-in-law, Jeanette (Jack) Jones; nephews Joe (Carla) Strickland, Jeff (Kelly) Jones and family and David (Maria) Jones and family.
There will be a private family burial.
There will be a service to celebrate his life 2:00 PM Saturday at First Christian United Church of Christ of Burlington by Rev. Jamie Fonville.
The family will receive friends 12:30 – 1:30 PM Saturday at the church prior to his service.
