Thomas Wheeley

Elon - Thomas Chandlas "Tommy" Wheeley, 86, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 30, 2018 at the Hospice Home surrounded by his family. A native of Alamance County, he was born October 31, 1931 to the late Ben Richard and Alice Cates Wheeley and was the husband of 51 years to the late Shirley Baize Wheeley.
Tommy was a US Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He worked for the Greensboro Housing Authority and attended New Hope Baptist Church where he was a member of the Men's Sunday School class. He was also a member of the art class at the Senior Citizen's Center. Tommy was a loving father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his daughter, Teresa Diane Wheeley Williamson of Elon; sons, Thomas Dale Wheeley of Elon, Timothy Lynn Wheeley and wife Bonnie of Elon; grandchildren, Heather Harris, Brian Wheeley, Jessica Wheeley, Corey Wheeley, Travis and Hannah Wheeley; step grandchildren, Scott, Michael and Chris Wade; great grandchildren, Destiny and Cameron Pruitt; special niece, Sharon McDonald and a sister, Romona Flynn. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and sisters, Eleanor Ray and Carolyn Newell.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at New Hope Baptist Church by Pastor Randy Hobbs with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Monday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the granddaughter, Heather's home at 1425 North Park Ave. in Burlington.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church (Building Fund) 1525 Flora Avenue, Burlington, NC 27217.
