Burlington Thomas Brown "Brownie" Vines, 84, of Burlington went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at the Hospice Home. He was born in Watauga County to the late W.R. and Edna Tester Vines and was married to the late Mary Nell Farthing Vines. Brownie retired from Lucent Technologies. He was a very active member of Grove Park Baptist Church where he served as head usher for many years and several other committees over the years as well. He was also a member of the Burlington Civitan Club. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He is survived by his daughter, Jean Vines of Burlington; brother, Vance Betty Vines of Graham; sister, Ruby Anderson of Boone; sisters-in-law, Joyce Vines and Marie Farthing, both of Boone and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brothers, James, Hal and John Vines. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at Grove Park Baptist Church by Dr. Gene Hunsinger with burial to follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Friday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215. The family would like to say a special "Thank You" to the doctors, nurses and staff at Blakey Hall, Liberty Commons, Alamance Regional Medical Center and Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell.
