Thomas Smith

Thomas Argo Smith, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, November 23, 2010. He was born in Danville, Virginia and grew up in Alamance County. He was the son of the late Grover Cleveland Smith and Lucy Pettigrew Smith and was married to the late Martha Ward Smith, mother of Steve and Scotty. He was most recently married to Ruth Williams Smith who survives. Thomas retired from Delmar Studios as a school photographer and was a member of Graham Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir for many years. He was also a member of the Brotherhood Sunday School Class. Thomas was a veteran of the US Navy and later the Merchant Marines during WW II. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Survivors include his wife of the home, Ruth William Smith; sons, Scotty Smith and his wife, Darlene and Steve "Moose" Smith and his wife, Sue; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren all of Franklin, Tennessee; sisters, Lucille Turner of Burlington and Frances Braxton of Dover, Delaware. He was preceded in death by his first wife, parents, a sister, Ethel Martin and a brother, Lee "Buddy" Smith. The funeral service will be held on Monday, November 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Graham Presbyterian Church by Rev. Steve Braswell and assisted by Rev. Scotty Smith with burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 9:45 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church and other times at the home.
