Thomas Reid Joyce

Thomas Reid Joyce, 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at the Hospice Home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 5, 1933 in Rockingham County to the late Reuben Lee Joyce and Mary Belle Dodson Joyce. Thomas was the husband of 62 years to the late Barbara Horner Joyce who died in 2017.

 Thomas retired after 40 years with Western Electric/Lucent as an Electronic Tester. He was a US Army veteran, a former member of People’s Memorial Christian Church and was an avid Tarheel fan. Thomas enjoyed working in his yard, woodworking, and helping others. He was known for his athletic skills from a young boy to his older years in baseball, softball, basketball and tennis. In the past, Thomas played softball for Huffman Oil Softball League and won several trophies for his accomplishments in his sport activities. He also enjoyed refereeing and umpiring games. 

 He is survived by his children, LuAnn Thomas, Cathy Mays, David Joyce and wife Shari; grandchildren, Mary Kathrine Tucker, David Joshua Tucker and wife Krista, Brandon Joyce and wife Randi Beth, Elizabeth Anderson and husband Aaron, Roger Lee Mays, Jr. and wife Cady, Jessica Moody and husband Joe; step grandchildren, David Mays, Jr. and wife Courtney and Matthew Mays; great grandchildren, Freya Willow Tucker, Hunter Anderson, Emerson Anderson, Jackson Mays, Harrison Mays, Charleigh Mays, Abbie Moody and Wyatt Moody; step great granddaughters, Emma and Ava Mays; a brother, Jim Joyce and numerous nieces and nephews.

 Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, his parents, Reuben and Mary Joyce and siblings, Betty Cates, J.B. Joyce, Polly Mills and Mildred Kenyan.

 The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Friday, October 4, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. John Shields with the burial to follow at the Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm to 1:45pm Friday prior to the service and other times at the residence.
