Burlington, NC Thomas "Tom" Roach, Garrison, Jr. age 85, of Seabury Court , Twin Lakes, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 29, 2009. He was a native of Mecklenburg County and husband of Ann Parker Garrison for 59 years. Tom was a mechanical engineer with Dupont for over 35 years and a member of First Baptist Church of Burlington. He graduated from Mars Hill Junior College and North Carolina State University. Tom served as a volunteer with Contact Crisis Helpline of Martinsville for more than 20 years, volunteered with the Boy Scouts in Martinsville for many years, and served on overseas missions trips with his church. Survivors include his wife, Ann; daughters, Betty Garrison of Burlington and Fran Garrison Murphy and son-in-law, Mike, of Raleigh; sons, Banks Garrison of Abingdon, Virginia, Paul Garrison, and daughter-in-law, Monica, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; grandchildren, Caroline Murphy, William Garrison, Travis Garrison, Meredith Garrison and Parker Garrison. His is also survived by his dear sister, Ruth Garrison Lawing of Charlotte, three nieces and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Roach and Ottilie Brandes Garrison. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, 11:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Burlington by Dr. Terry E. Peele. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. The family requests that memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Salvation Army.
