Burlington Thomas Wayne Barker, 75, went home to be with the Lord Friday morning, June 21, 2013 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill following a brief illness. A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late Paul Gilliam and Myrtle Wagoner Barker and the husband of 56 years to Jackie Brown Barker of the home. Wayne was a member of Apple's Chapel Christian Church and a US Air Force Veteran. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to work. He was a caring individual who had a passion for helping others. His family was very important to him as he cherished the times spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was the centerpiece to the Barker family and will forever be remembered for the great influence he had on them all. He is survived by his wife of the home; sons, Paul Barker of Elon and Dr. Greg Barker and wife, Lorie of Mebane; daughter, Christi B. Skenes and husband, Butch of Elon; grandchildren, Spc. John Matthew Baulding, Joshua Thomas Baulding, Emerson Wayne Barker, LCpl. Phillip Tyler Baulding, Layton Gregory Barker and Gibson Gage Barker; brothers, Dr. C. Dean Barker and wife, Dot and Charles Barker and wife, Liz and sisters, Doris Roscoe and husband, Dr. Don Roscoe and Nancy Hall. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Adrain Hall. The funeral service will be held 1:00pm Sunday, June 23, 2013 at Apple's Chapel Christian Church by Rev. C Allen Myers, III and close friend, Pastor Norman Fargis with the burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Saturday at the church and other times at the home.
