Mrs. Thelma Milam Carter, age 102, of 1916 Whitsett St. passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. A native of Pittsylvania County, VA, she was the wife of the late Carson Jay Carter, Sr. and daughter of the late Caleb and Annie Mae Barrett Milam. She was the oldest living member of Baptist Temple and a former employee of Glen Raven Mills. Survivors include her sons, Charles F. Carter and wife Shelia, Dr. Donald R. Carter and wife Betty, Ronald Lee Carter, Gary L. Carter and wife Dickie, all of Burlington and Dennis M. Carter and wife Marlyn of Mebane; daughter, Nancy White of Burlington; 38 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sons, Carson J. Carter, Jr., Phillip R. Carter, Wallace W. Carter; daughters, Carolyn M. Lashley and Doris Ann Horne. She was the last living of 16 children. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, September 23, 2011 at Baptist Temple by Dr. Donald R. Carter and Rev. David Carter. Interment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. Mrs. Carter will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until being taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home from 6-8pm Thursday and at the residence at other times. You may sign the online register book at www.lowefuneralhome.com
