Mrs. Thelma Bruner, 93, born in Stokes County, NC and a long-time resident of Burlington, died on Sunday, August 17, at the home of her daughter, Deborah Laughon in Lakeland, FL. She departed this life into the arms of Jesus and her waiting loved ones. She is predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Lester Bruner, Jr.; father, Joseph Gideon Collins; mother, Mary Della Frye Collins; sisters, Hester Eaton, Mabel Griffits, Gladys Matthews and Hazel Stevens and brothers, Vester Collins and Robert Collins. Thelma retired from AT&T in Burlington and attended Grove Park Baptist Church. She was an accomplished seamstress and a talented free hand artist. She was blessed with a green thumb and loved working in her flower garden which flourished under her touch. Survivors include her daughters, Brenda Blackburn of Christiansburg, VA, Deborah Laughon Danny Lakeland, Fl, and Barbara Epps Sammy of Burlington; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; sisters, Clara Hall, Myrtle Love, Linda Edwards, Peggy Walker, Neomie Hall and Susie Edwards; brothers, Joe Collins and J.R. Collins. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by her brother, Mr. Joe Collins. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:00am prior to the service in the chapel.
