Tam Roberts, Sr.

Burlington-Tam Delbert Roberts was born on July 31, 1930 and passed at home on November 1, 2017 entering into the presence of Jesus at 3:45am. He was a native of Wilkes County and is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sarah Ann Roberts; his son, Tam Roberts Jr.; daughters, Rebecca Newlin and Janet Moore; son in law, William Newlin; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Burley Parks Roberts and Delia Prevette Roberts; his daughter, Louann Roberts Gaines; his brother, Carl Roberts; and his sisters Clara Belle Roberts, Doris Poteat, Inez Chambers and Avalee Lowery.
Tam retired from Carolina Steel after 33 years and then worked as a consultant for 5 years. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He loved gardening, spending time with his grandchildren, eating sweets, making items out of steel, and he loved Grace Baptist Church. He also had a great sense of humor and told wonderful stories of memories from childhood.
He had declining health for two and a half years with dementia. Tam had wonderful caregivers with Hospice and the family appreciates and thanks them for their loving support. The family wants to thank the full-time caregivers, especially Joey Duffey, who was with him from the start of Tam's declining health. Myrtle Paylor and Barbara Terry were also a blessing to Tam and the family.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 2:00pm at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Tony Thomas. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45pm on Friday prior to the service and other times at the home. The burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park with honors provided by the Army National Guard.
